Public relations (PR) is not a profession for me. Public relations is a purpose, a calling, and an effective tool for bringing about change. Picture a society where people are united by communication, trust, and a sense of belonging. This is the world of public relations that I am devoted to, which is the reason for my choice of career.

Not too long ago, I had the privilege of being featured in an article called Why Are You Passionate About Public Relations? In it, I talked about how PR helps build trust through intentional communication. It was such an honor—and truly motivating—to be part of a group of people who share the same passion for this field.

This article will discuss ways in which PR influences my daily life, motivates my contribution at South Asialink Finance Corporation (SAFC), and creates an impact to the environments where we serve.

Building Trust: The Cornerstone of Public Relations

PR, at its core, is all about building relationships. It serves as the bridge that connects organizations with their stakeholders, communities, and society as a whole. Over the years, I’ve come to understand that trust doesn’t happen overnight—it’s something you earn through open communication, ethical actions, and a commitment to shared values.

One experience that really brought this to life for me was leading the Pinoy Ultimate Jeepney Design Competition during my time at Resorts World Manila. This wasn’t just another marketing campaign; it was a celebration of Filipino creativity and community pride. The excitement it generated and the way it resonated through media coverage reaffirmed my belief in the power of PR to bring people together and spark inspiration.

Driving Impact Through Purposeful Initiatives at SAFC

Joining SAFC gave me the opportunity to channel my passion into initiatives that combine corporate goals with meaningful societal contributions. One such initiative was the #IamGREENHERO Reduce, Reuse, Redrive campaign, which wove environmental sustainability into our secondhand car financing services. It wasn’t just a campaign; it was a movement, shifting perceptions and encouraging eco-conscious decisions. Through this, we reached thousands, instigating positive change and reaffirming that business and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Another effort close to my heart is our CSR initiative, SAFC Heroes. In partnership with the Pasig Local Government Unit, this program aims to uplift local communities through targeted projects. These experiences remind me of PR’s true potential—not just to tell stories but to drive real-world impact by aligning corporate actions with community needs.

Gratitude and the Power of Reflection

Being featured in Why Are You Passionate About Public Relations? allowed me to reflect on my journey alongside other industry professionals. It reinforced why I’m so deeply invested in PR: to foster open conversations, shape perceptions, and create lasting impacts. It also reaffirmed that the heart of PR lies in authenticity—connecting people through shared values and meaningful communication.

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s that PR isn’t just about managing reputations. It’s about creating trust, sparking meaningful conversations, and driving positive change.

A Message to Aspiring PR Professionals

For those who are considering a potential line of career in public relations, this is going to be a journey that requires dedication, passion and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. PR will stretch you to the very core, stir up your imagination and offer the opportunity to make a difference which can be long-standing.
